On My Soapbox...

Today, I was reading a great post from Mikki at, The View From My Beach Chair ( she's awesome, you should check her out) and what she wrote struck a nerve...She was posting about what matters most...and more so...who matters most, and talking about the death of Michael Jackson....That got me thinking about my own opinion on the "Kings" death...And about how enough is enough...I mean Farrah died after a long and painful bout with cancer and she got swept under the rug...Please don't get me wrong..I was a fan of his in the early days, I know all the words to Billie Jean and I liked Thriller and when the news showed a clip of his little girl breaking down at his funeral, it brought me to tears....But when people camped out by the thousands to view his funeral processions , people fighting and passing out...come on...And an overflow area was held for people who wouldn't fit into the Staples Center(which had 1.6 million people register for tickets) it made me think just....WHO ARE WE IDOLIZING??? How many people would camp out for a funeral procession of a fallen solider....One who had been defending our country so we can sleep safely at night...Or so we can go into a grocery store and buy food for our family without the fear of a suicide boomer...These brave men and women spend months and sometimes years away from their families for us...For our FREEDOM.....And then some one who was possibly using a drug like propofol to sleep, gets round the clock media coverage (I said possibly). Why are we not honoring these men and women every day...

Please watch this video, this was on our local news, following a local fallen solider from the funeral to the grave side...This took place through several counties and towns.....It is very powerful....And I will try to get off my soapbox now........

I agree...........those people are "idol" worshiping. Yeah, he had okay music, but he was not THAT great.

Poor Farrah and Ed, they got lost in the media.

I have not had a chance to watch the video yet. I know that I have to get my kleenex ready.

Our fallen soldiers NEED this attention, not has been music star.

The saddest thing to me is how many people don't have focus in their own lives...those of us who do are not glued to the every move of celebrities...they are just ordinary people too who happen to sing or act...UGH. Get a life, people..preferably your OWN! Ok, getting off MY soapbox...
